Use Case | Unplanned ATC Ground Delay Program Causes Cascading Effects

  1. When unplanned disruptions occur on the day of operation, Tower is leveraged to manage by exception. The user is responding to high-priority breakdowns in the schedule and they need to quickly identify critical disruptions to implement tactical recovery actions. Tower’s recovery solutions provide an integrated path to maintain schedule integrity and minimize passenger and crew disruption.

  2. It is  10:45 local time and a rolling ground delay program is in effect at a major East Coast hub (e.g., JFK). The user is alerted to multiple inbound flights delayed by over 90 minutes. Several crew pairings are at risk of timing out, and passengers from delayed inbound flights are at risk of missing long-haul international departures. The user reviews the event, elects to hold outbound aircraft for short-connection passengers, proactively rebooks customers where needed, and assigns reserve crew members where there are timeout constraints.

  3. This allows the OCC to shift from reactive response and congested constraints, to proactive exception-based and integrated recovery.
